Expert patients needed
In order to bring allergy to the forefront of the health provision in our regions, it would be wonderful to have a knowledgeable member representing allergy at every Strategic Health Authority. You may already have a voice at this level. If you feel that you would be able to give a clear message at strategic level, or already do, please contact lesley@lasg.org.uk to discuss further.The House of Lords report launched on the 23rd June 2010 - "Allergy Services - still not meeting the unmet need" ISBN 978-1-86016-384-5 shows clearly that doctors do not receive adequate allergy training at pre-registration or post-qualification level to support the diagnosis and appropriate referral of people with a possible allergy.
Allergy is so complex to diagnose and the recognition of the deficit in services is not well-recognised. We need a voice at every opportunity to ensure that services are properly provided in all regions and at a competent level.
